When you’re trying to establish influence, you may find yourself easily overwhelmed. However, being influential doesn’t have to be difficult. To become a thought leader with influence, it’s important that you focus on what you love and what you know, be yourself, and always be consistent.

we’ve crafted a simple strategy guide to help you get you started –

identify your niche

It’s the thing that you’re really interested in, even if others aren’t. It will be something that you know a lot about and are eager and ready to share. This is where you’ll show off your expertise.

tip: not everyone is into beauty, wellness, home decor. For example, if you crafty items like custom door wreaths, macrame decor, or personalized ribbon and tape, stay in your zone and focus on what you know. Or, maybe you’re into gaming, app development, and industrial fabrication; guess what? … there’s an audience out there for you.

find your comfort zone

There are many popular and easy to use social media channels to choose from. You’ll want to decide on which ones you want to focus on. For example, if you enjoy creating video content, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok might be a good fit.

have a strategy

You don’t want to post haphazardly. Your content should be meaningful and add value to your followers/subscribers.

be consistent

Don’t get started and then drop the ball. Your audience will grow and thrive from your consistency. Decide how frequently and how much you want to post. You may decide to post to YouTube three times per week and post to Instagram daily.

Just don’t marry your strategy. After posting consistently for a few weeks or months, pay attention to your analytics to see if you need to make any changes. You may find that you need to increase or decrease the frequency of your posts… or that you’re currently missing opportunities.

As your confidence and consistency-in-message grow, so will your ability to influence. The important thing to remember is not to let off the gas. As you build follower loyalty you’ll want to nurture your audience.

To do that remember these key points to continue to grow in influence.
  • collaborate with others – Don’t just wait for others to like, comment, or share your posts. Reciprocate the love. Start by following the accounts of others in the industry and engaging in their posts through likes, comments, and content shares.
  • build your community – Be inviting with your content and engaging with your audience. Never leave a question or response unanswered in your comments. When you respond… people connect.
  • shamelessly promote yourself – Promoting yourself isn’t bragging. Good content will defend itself, but you will need to attract your audience to it. Don’t be afraid to share your content. Engage with groups that your target market is a part of. Use relevant hashtags.
  • always add value – Be intentional with the content you produce. Make sure there’s meaning behind what you’re posting. When you inspire others or give them information they can use, you add value.

As you implement these tips and remain consistent in your message and content creation, people will start to listen. The more people identify and engage with your brand, the more your influence will grow. Always remember that your ability to be an influencer isn’t dictated by you, it’s based on if others are able to connect and find value in you.
