Most women, particularly those that juggle many responsibilities, find it difficult to give themselves permission to participate in self-care. Those are the women that need it the most. But the truth is… often, when you balance a hectic life, the first thing to get ignored is YOU.

But rather than going another week without allowing yourself to unwind, I’m urging you to start taking time each day that’s dedicated to your personal wellbeing. Just by making yourself a priority, you’re taking a monumental step towards self-love. To focus on your own needs, you will find yourself overcoming feelings of guilt and selfishness.

Being good to yourself doesn’t require a lot of planning or resources.

It can be as simple as giving yourself a pedicure or spending time meditating in the morning. Maybe you’ve been wanting to attend that Alvin Ailey show or try a new restaurant… it’s okay to go ahead and do it. Yes, even if that means doing it alone.

It’s not contingent on anyone else, just what brings you greater peace of mind, balance, calm and happiness.

Only you can define fulfillment and contentment for yourself. It’s difficult sometimes because we find ourselves checking off to-do lists and working a rigid schedule, that even the thought of personal time is stressful. It shouldn’t be this way though. Self-care should come natural and deserves for it to be a part of our daily lives.

But if you’re like most of us and you’re struggling to find ways to love on you… here are a few examples to help get you started.

  • Wake up early every day and spend time reading, speaking affirmations, or savoring your favorite coffee.
  • Create a new playlist that only includes music that makes you feel good.
  • Take a painting, pole dance, or public speaking class.
  • Get outdoors. Take a walk, go to the park, or even take a weekend beach getaway.
  • Write some poetry.
