Life can sometimes feel like a battle. It can feel like you are swimming upstream against the tide, with no relief in sight. And while most of us persevere, despite the odds, we often overlook the reality that being worn out, stressed, and overwhelmed can lead to unhappiness, health problems, and mental and emotional strain.
Creating a harmonious life is similar to a recipe. Much like baking a cake, you’ll need the right ingredients to get the desired result. Let’s explore a few areas where the right efforts on your part, can create a more harmonious and happy life for you.
your home is your haven
Your home should be your “safe place”. It should be that one place that you feel most comfortable in. Your furnishings should reflect your personality and design preferences. Take the time to curate a unique space… an escape. A space created just for you – where you feel calm yet invigorated and safe yet wild and free.
make time for you
When taking a flight the safety announcement always reminds us that in the event of a loss in cabin pressure you should attend to your own mask first before helping anyone else. The same applies to real life.
If you’re always depleted or exhausted, you won’t be able to support anyone else. You’ll actually end up feeling overwhelmed and resentful. This is why it’s so important for you to make time for yourself. You’re no good to anyone else if you’re constantly running on empty.
Taking time for you doesn’t mean always include grooming or maintenance. Don’t confuse a rushed mani/pedi on as special ‘me time’. Instead, think outside the box. Plan a staycation with the works: room service, a few hours at the spa, and time dedicated specifically to doing nothing. Or, keep it simple and grab a good book, your favorite bottle of wine, that candle that’s become decor, and actually light your fireplace. The goal is for you to truly unwind, give your mind a break. Spend some time with self. Give yourself room to love on you.
at work –
When you’re trying to do everything yourself at work or in business, you may be the root of your own feelings of overwhelm. If you want true balance in life, learn to delegate and outsource. It’s okay to ask for help or to acknowledge that you’re underwater. Whether it’s asking a co-worker to help you complete a project or handing over your advertising efforts to a digital marketing agency, you’ve got to take back the reigns of your own life.
nurture your relationships
It’s often said that “no man (or woman) is an island”. We all need connection to thrive and be our best selves. Meaningful relationships aren’t just for that special someone or family members. Having a tribe of women that you can depend on, the ones that raise your vibration and inspire you to dream big and truly experience life.
life can often get in the way… don’t let it
- Catch yourself if you’re leaning too much on social media to stay in contact with your loved ones.
- Don’t wait for someone else to do it, plan a get together for you and your closest friends.
- Get creative with date night and keep the sparks flying.
- Remember birthdays, anniversaries, and important dates… even if you have to set reminders. Be the thoughtful one.
always strive to have the proper mindset and balanced emotions
It’s scientifically proven that the thoughts you think create the feelings you feel; and the feelings you feel determine your quality of life. That’s why it’s so important to manage your thoughts.
“Where attention goes energy flows”. This potent saying reminds us that when we maintain a positive perspective, we attract positivity. And when we give our attention over to negative thinking, we attract negativity. Going forward, each time you have a negative thought, check yourself. Think of ways that you can be grateful in that moment and redirect your thoughts back to positive, happy and empowering thoughts.
