We’ve all wondered, at one time or another, “is this all life has to offer?” Routines become redundant and we find ourselves questioning our purpose. What happened to living a fulfilled and happy life? Are we meant to just study, work, pay bills, and squeeze in just enough time for sleep and a little entertainment?
The truth is that there is more to life than the humdrum daily routines we get into, but you have to be open to it. From changing mundane behaviors and exploring new things to making the conscious decision to look on the positive, you have the ability to create a life you love.
If you’re feeling empty or unsatisfied, here’s how you can learn to live a happier and more fulfilling life every day.
do something different
Life happens so fast that sometimes we find ourselves living in a place we hate, working in a job that offers little value or personal growth, going through the same routine day in and day out, and we wonder how we got to this place. Most of the time it’s because we check out. We start to let life happen to us, instead of taking back control of life journey.
Stop accepting that your current situation is your permanent situation and do something different.
- In a relationship that’s way past its expiration date? Stop putting off the inevitable and wasting your time. End things amicably (or try to) and start building a more fulfilling life.
- Tired of watching HGTV and wishing that you could buy and rehab your own home? You won’t know until you try. Get up and apply for a mortgage and see where you stand. Even if you don’t get approved, you’ll know what you need to do to prepare.
- Still telling people, year after year, that you’re working on losing the same 30 pounds? It’s time to stop procrastinating and start logging in gym time and eating better.
No matter what the baggage is that you’re carrying around with you or the routine that you’ve allowed yourself to get comfortable in, you can make a change. Change starts with choice… so start by making intentional choices to do something different!Stop accepting that your current situation is your permanent situation and do something different. live in gratitude
To start living a truly fulfilling life, it’s time to put things into perspective. Everything in your life isn’t bad. Stop allowing pessimism and negative thinking to overshadow what is going right in your life.
Living with a grateful heart can be life-changing. When you refocus your perspective and begin to share love and gratitude you’ll be left with an overwhelming feeling of abundance and happiness. Start by setting aside time just to reflect on how blessed you are. And if it doesn’t always feel that way at that very moment, think about the fact that things could always be worse.
stop missing out
Life is happening, all around you, even when you’re busy doing other things. Stop spending your downtime binge-watching Netflix or scrolling social media and start making time for you… for your life’s goals and to pursue your purpose? Binge-watching your favorite show or catching up on your social feed isn’t a bad thing, but it shouldn’t consume your time. Stop wasting time on activities that don’t get you closer to your dream life. Decide to turn off the tv, put down the smartphone, and start living an amazing life.
revise your self-talk
Negative thinking is powerful and what we think is influenced by what we say. Words seep into our thoughts and change our mindset which can then affect our behaviors and habits… it’s like a chain reaction that can quickly get out of hand.
If you have some self-beliefs that are keeping you from living your best life, it’s time to evaluate what you’re manifesting with your words. Start with affirmations and being more intentional with your responses. Remove words like ‘can’t’ and ‘never’ from your vocabulary. The more conscious you are about what you’re saying, the more your internal prompts will remind you not say them.Words seep into our thoughts and change our mindset which can then affect our behaviors and habits... it's like a chain reaction that can quickly get out of hand. see the good
Life won’t always go as planned. You will make mistakes and you’ll experience hurt and pain; and have to learn to manage your feelings and emotions, so that they don’t overwhelm you. There will be challenges and unexpected changes that you’ll have to navigate and overcome… and maintaining the proper perspective will be the internal guide that you need.
Make a resolute decision to not allow the peaks and valleys of life to completely derail you. Start purposely seeing the good in all situations. Remember that even when things look the most bleak… there is still something to be grateful for.
Analyze the quality of your relationships. Ask yourself if the people around you feed your soul and evaluate how much you actually have in common… you will probably be surprised at what you discover.
While everyone is not a rotten apple, many people that are closest to you add no value to your life.
