The world is full of young professional women eager to make their impact on the world. Most have only one thing on their minds: their career. If you’ve completed school or have already started climbing the corporate ladder, remember that it’s never too early to start creating balance in life.

We live in a time when work-life balance can seem impossible. Our devices make us overly accessible… to everyone. And a constant fear of unemployment fuels impossible work hours that aren’t healthy for any of us. A little more than 94% of working professionals say they work 50+ hours per week and almost half that said they worked just about 65 hours per week. All of this only leads to professional women that are overworked and stressed – neither of which is healthy, good for our relationships, or our personal well-being.

While work-life balance looks completely different to each of us, one thing is for sure: we have to find a balance that works for us.

5 things that might be keeping you from finding happiness - Tiffany Nicole Forever Blog

Don’t forget about you

You might be putting in 14 hour days at work and have the accolades to support your strong work ethic, but not carving out space for yourself will catch up with you. You don’t want to regret this time of your life. Lack of personal experiences and lost moments, can’t be recovered.

Start to address your work-life balance right away.

Think about the life you’re curating outside of your work environment. Are you spending time with friends and family, traveling, or do you have hobbies that you work on regularly? Be honest with yourself. What are you missing out on? …and what can you do differently, no matter how small, to start making improvements? Consider joining a class, taking up a hobby, planning a getaway, or redecorating your home

Pursue Your Happiness

We spend our young and middle adult life so focused on our careers, that we rarely stop to access what all that work is doing to our emotional health. We forget that our happiness should be a priority. Don’t wait for your happiness. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us and there’s much more to life than an impressive resume.

Don’t look back on your life and think that you wasted most of chasing money and status.

While we all have responsibilities and money is essentially how we survive, it isn’t everything. What’s even more important is that you think about what makes you happy; what feeds your soul and brings you peace of mind – rather than just putting in hours to fund a superficial lifestyle. Because if you’re not truly happy, all that effort is in vain.

Plan for the life you want to live

There will come a time when you no longer want to work – whether because of health, age, or personal choice. Start thinking about your finances and how your current financial outlook matches up with your future goals. Consider your investment options. Maybe you’ve been eyeing the Bitcoin phenomenon or even want to invest in real estate. Now might be the time to make your move and start preparing for the life you want to live.
