The New Year is fast approaching! Soon the primary topic of discussion will be what your resolutions are for the new year. We’ll all mull over the usual: lose weight or get healthy, pay down debt and save more, give up bad habits… etc. Before you start jotting down your list of resolutions, take some time to really think about the things that you want to accomplish and how you can craft better results for yourself in the new year.

Be realistic

Making promises to yourself at the beginning of each year is probably not a foreign concept for you. The question is how realistic are your goals. Sometimes we set goals that are easy to achieve, the no-brainers, just so that we feel a sense of accomplishment. Other times we can be too lofty with our goals and end up disappointed – even though they were unrealistic, to begin with.

The happy medium is somewhere in between.

It’s important that your goals stretch you to be better, do better, and have better. But in the end, you are solely responsible for making them happen. Whether you desire to further your education, get a new job, start a new relationship or get an offer on your house so that you can have a fresh start, each milestone should be realistic and achievable.

Mindset

Setting good resolutions is only part of the process. Having the right mindset is the key to seeing them through. Our mindset is rooted in what we believe about ourselves and what we consistently expose ourselves to. To change it, you have to examine what your current beliefs are. If you believe that your current salary is an accurate depiction of your worth, you’ll never manifest limitless abundance.

Your beliefs also impact our ability to accept more and better for ourselves. For example, If you want to experience more happiness in your life, you first have to truly believe that you are worthy of it. All efforts will be in vain until you adopt the right mindset and modify your belief system.

This applies to everything.

When you give yourself permission to be open to change – you allow yourself to acknowledge what it will truly take to achieve your goals. You also open the door to better understanding why the change is needed in the first place.

Think about it this way: To truly be successful with weight loss, you can’t set a goal to lose weight and not address the underlying issues that caused you to be overweight in the first place.

Prepare yourself mentally by being more intentional with your words, eliminating distractions, practicing self-care, and surrounding yourself with others that want to see you win.

Start Anytime

Don’t wait until the new year to start making changes in your life. We get it… the 1st of the year is like a fresh start. It’s a clean slate and a new beginning. But you don’t have to limit yourself to any specific date to start creating a life you love.

Eliminate all limited thinking.

This includes thought patterns like: ‘I’ll start on Monday’ or ‘Next month I’m getting my finances together’. Each time you make your goals futuristic you start to chip away at your sense of urgency. Instead start right away.

Don’t have the money yet? That’s okay, start by creating the plan of action.

Don’t have the food you need to start eating better? Start with reducing your portion sizes.

Don’t put your goals off… or base them on a future start point, start where you are, with what you have!
