If you’ve already decided that 2018 is going to be your year to shine, make sure you’re including your business in that declaration! Start exploring how you can be more productive and efficient so that you are able to free up more time to focus on your next steps.  If you spent most of 2017 creating a strong foundation for your business, It’s time to consider taking things to the next level.

Of course, the normal day-to-day responsibilities still need to get done. You just have to be accepting of the idea that they have to be done by you. So what are the next steps? How do you reduce your to-do list so that you’re able to get more done in 2018?

Here are a few tips to help you take your business to the next level

Hire an assistant

For most entrepreneurs, the first hire is an assistant – and for good reason. If you don’t already have one and it works with your financials, hiring one should be one of your top priorities.

Why an assistant?

An assistant is able to help with a wide range of tasks. They can save you time by taking over administrative tasks, keeping you organized, and helping to maintain (and balance) your schedule. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to overload your days and burnout from working non-stop.

Tip: If you’re worried about costs, consider hiring a part-time assistant or a virtual assistant that works remotely. A virtual assistant can be paid by the project, or you can have one on a monthly retainer – which usually includes a certain amount of billable hours per month.  and then they will only be paid for the time that they are working.

Outsource what you can

The environment you create for yourself and those that work for you and with you has a direct impact on the morale in the office. This doesn’t always pertain to the corporate culture. How well you maintain the office also has an impact. Think about tasks that currently take up your day that could be outsourced inexpensively.

Where do you start?

Here are a few questions to ask yourself to better understand what could be outsourced – and taken off your to-do list:

How much time do you spend cleaning your office or workspace? Consider finding a reliable and trustworthy cleaning service.

Do you spend hours or days balancing your budget or making sense of your finances each month? If this sounds familiar, it’s probably time to look into hiring a CPA or accounting firm that specializes in small businesses.

Are you in need of reliable garbage collection services at your office? Seems like a no-brainer right? Not so much. Many people try to cut corners and think that they’re saving money when really they’re just adding to their responsibilities.

Organize your personal workspace

If just the thought of your office is overwhelming; or you’re constantly sifting through an endless stream of papers and files. It’s time to give your office a little attention. Never underestimate the power of a well decorated and appointed workspace. A well-organized space allows you to work more efficiently and eliminates unnecessary stress.

Tip: Your space should be functional and increase your productivity. Take the time to create an organized filing system. Even if the concept sounds old school, in business, there is still paperwork to keep up with. Keep in mind that you also want to maintain hard copies of legal documents and important records – technology is convenient but not always reliable.
