All of us will experience not feeling great about our current situation, from time to time. Sometimes those feelings manifest into doubt and fear. Feeling down may be common, but we don’t have to let it take over our thoughts.

There are many things that we can do to create a more healthy balance mentally and emotionally. Distraction can sometimes be the most effective healing. If it’s used for our own improvement, it can also be a catalyst for a better life.

Here are a few things that you can do to boost your mood and start creating a better life. 

Be Productive

Sometimes the reason that we’re feeling down is more about the disappointment that we feel within ourselves than anything else. It’s time to get serious about our goals and increase our productivity. Just sticking at something long enough will help us to find success. And you’ll be so busy achieving your goals that you’ll forget about those blah feelings you were experiencing.

Tip: Find ways to inject joy into your productivity. Being productive doesn’t just have to mean being busy. Create a happy work environment by playing music that you actually enjoy, burning candles with scents that boost your mood (think citrus), and turning big projects into mini-competitions for yourself – with a reward in the end. Just because there’s work to be done doesn’t mean you have to hate doing it.

Make Money Fun

Is money stressing you out? Learning to manage your money can be one of the most rewarding things that you can do for yourself. Not only does every good financial decision make you feel good, but it also helps you to build a solid financial future. You’ll feel more confident, have more money in the bank, and be prepared for potential mood-busting unexpected emergencies.

Tip: For each major financial milestone that you achieve, don’t forget that you deserve a reward. Treat yourself to a night out, for paying off that credit card balance; or splurge on that pair of shoes you want, if you’ve hit your savings goal for the month. You deserve it!

If you haven’t gotten your budget in line, the end of the week can be the time where you find yourself coming up short. And if your credit is bad, you may be limited in options should something come up.
